In today’s present time the future is unknown to us. People predict all they want but no one really knows what the future will bring us. People die suddenly and tragedies strike the world in the flash of a camera lens. But who could have seen these things coming? It's not like we have every future tragedy written down on a piece of paper for us. In the movie Gattaca children are basically given a life to live. If you are from a test tube there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that you are imperfect in any way. If you are conceived naturally the risk of dying early and/or having a fatal disease is rated higher. Lately though prenatal studies confirm that information can be taken from the fetus in order to show signs of down syndrome to cystic fibrosis. In the novel Feed the subject of prenatal birth arises as well. The feed gives newborns instant education, which remains with them the rest of their lives. The feed gives society the satisfaction of having equal intelligence among everyone. The subject of test tube babies was brought up between Titus and his girlfriend Violet. "I always thought it was weird that they decided to have a kid at a conceptionarium. I guess they really wanted to have me freestyle."(Pg. 179) Violet was a test tube baby. She mentions that it was too dangerous to be a "freestyle" baby because of the imperfect and how the future could damage her both physically and mentally. In today's life perfection is a necessity. Everyone wants to be beautiful, millionaires, and have everything going for them. Because of technology and eugenics the possibility of having the perfect body and having a near to perfect life can become true.

After reading the article Going to Great Lengths, it seems to be an issue for people to want to get the best out of life and live it with not only the issues like intelligence or athleticism, but also their physical appearance. It seems to be a big issue in this article that people take a medicine called Humatrope, in order for short people to grow that extra few inches in order to, as they think, live more pleasant future. This is very similar to the movie, Gatica and the book Feed, because in both of these materials the society provided procedures that would not only demolish any future health issues, but also give the child an advancement on the physical appearance that their parents desired. This does not seem to have any great risks or hold any future consequences, only for the fact that as technology grows the more demanding parents will be. Parents will be wanting their child to be the best and have all the preparations ready to make life, as they call it, the happiest and the most productive for their future. Through reading the article Abortion Decisions, we that the authors talk about how women around the world started getting abortions for reasons such as lack of a father figure, saving the mother’s health and money issues. Now that technology has risen a great deal, abortions have led to a great increase, which is an effect of prenatal testing. This type of testing allows the doctors and the mother of the child to see if there would be any sever health issues with the baby itself and gives the mother an opportunity to abort the child, or in other words, keep it safe from an unhappy life. This is somewhat similar to the movie, Gatica, because their society had technology that could prevent children with a chance of disease or health problem to withstand that issue and come out as an exceptionally healthy human being. All in all, we can draw the conclusion that doctors everywhere and any time are just merle tying to keep babies safe and healthy and grow up with the greatest chance of happiness with out the concern of any other related effects. Now through both the book Feed and the movie Gatica, how do they balance the needs on the individual with the goals of their society? As we see, in the novel, society looked at you by the way you were advanced in technology. If you were not up to par with the technology or were not programmed within a certain time frame, you were not considered ethical. In the movie, you were not accepted or given any opportunities to success if you were not their perfect person image. If you were not programmed to a certain way so that you were in no danger of anything at all, and were programmed to be the best at anything you tried, then you were found not to be the right candidate at any job or any thing you applied yourself too. Now this, more strict than the book, they would even do finger blood samples, eyes scans, and urine tests to make sure that you were a valid being. But were these real valid beings at all?

The article published by the New York Times presents a contemporary conflict by telling us the significant possibility that human cells could be cloned. The author states that some experiments have been taking place in South Korea, and they finally proofed that human clones “dismissed as science fiction a decade ago, has crossed into uncharted ethical territory.” With no public or specifics proofs, South Korean researchers stated, “The only reason other countries have not developed this technology is because they feared the ethical repercussions, not because they lacked the technology." Today we are confronting an ethical and moral debate between science and humanity groups. Even though there are no doubts human cloned could be possible, there is a limit on certain experimentations, "may damage the integrity of human life," according to a statement released by Rhee's office.

The article published by Andrew Pollack in the New York Times presents the idea of a future improvement in technology genetic modifications. Scientists, as Dr. David M. Gardiner, are working to find out some kind of chance to regenerate human cells. Since 200 years ago, different scientists have been studying the regeneration of cells in simple organisms such as mousse, snake and salamanders. They observed how tissues, like mussels, bones and organs; could be reestablished in their bodies without any scars. Many commercial and scientists institutions had made significant inversions supporting the investigation. Scientist are confident about modern technology will develop successful results in a near future.

Today we are dealing with a technological era of science and machines. We are living a society were priorities are placed in the improvement of the quality of life, looking for perfection. But the truth is that we confused the concept of improvement with the concept of progress. Our generation is facing controversial changes with significant consequences in today’s institutions, such as family.

The article published in 2001 year, published by the New York Times, is an example of how technology is going further as any limit. Scientists’ associations on South Korea proved that genetic technology is already available for the experimentation of human clones. Even though they complete the process of multiply cell, they couldn’t finally end the project because moral and ethics pressures. This is proved that humans are qualified to make that huge step; but we are not allowed. I believe any kind of human experimentation would never be a natural behavior. Society is looking for perfection; is searching for a new market to be opening, and the product to be sold would be “ superior humans beings.” Know we can see the difference between individual needs, and social goals.

Through the years many books and movies authors have associated the idea of technology development with future. We all imagine the same future: flying cars, perfect and efficient machines; everything is artificial and symmetric.

We believe that technology will achieve all society goals. But that’s a lie. “ Feed” by M.T. Anderson show us the nearest future we can imagine: flying cars, super machines and technology, nets in humans heads that provide them knowledge about everything they need. Also, Anderson described what would be picture of a future society, “ Can I tell you what I see? Can I tell you? We are hovering in the air while people are starving. This is obvious! Obvious!

We are playing games, and our skin is falling off.” Violet, (page 160). The author shows us by this statement that our society is not going to change. We believe that progress will come attached to technology, and as I say before, today we are spending money in genetics experimentations while our own environment is falling apart. What are the differences between Anderson’s society and ours? The answer is “ there aren’t any”. We need to set priorities; and the first one, is to try to improve the values in human beings rather than they habitat.

I think the fail is to believe that we actually need new innovations to improve our lives. Through these past years we replaced people’s work for machines, leading to a
