  Presentation of the coalition set up around an "International Alliance for the extension of social protection" and different regional networks – ACYM in Latin America, CONCERTATION (Coordination Network) in Africa and AMIN in Asia – that aims at enhancing and strengthening initiatives dedicated to the extension of social protection, supporting partnerships, and developing a more effective advocacy at all levels.
• Access to Social Protection and Health Care for All
  Various paths may be taken to extend health coverage and social protection in the area of health. It is up to each country to define its own extension strategy and the most appropriate mechanisms in light of its economic and institutional development withing its historical and cultural context.
  Several countries have started down that path, which consists of designing coherent and linked national health insurance systems based on several mechanisms, and a variety of actors and sources of financing.
  The international STEP programme of the ILO Social Security Department is the operational instrument of the Global Campaign on Social Security and Coverage for All.
  This brochure provides an overview of the activities of the STEP programme in Africa.
