  • NEWS: Barwell Travel is in safe hands with new owners
Barwell Travel is to launch concessionary rates for agents’ holidays and a summer booking incentive at world-renowned Spanish resort La Manga Club, as part of a campaign to build trade business following its acquisition by the LeisureFare group. LeisureFare took over Barwell on 7 May after the company went into administration, enabling Barwell to honour existing bookings and securing the future of its 39 staff. Now LeisureFare managing director Jeremy Scott is keen to develop the company’s long-standing relationship with the travel agent community as a core part of his rebuilding plan for Barwell. “Barwell has carved itself an enviable position as the No.1 operator for La Manga Club, as well as offering a great choice of other top leisure resorts and destinations around the world, and support from the trade has always been strong,” said Scott. “I want to give agents a clear message that Barwell Travel is back, stronger and more secure than ever, and that they have a key role to play as we move forward. These new trade initiatives with La Manga Club are the first step in that process.”

  • NEWS: Rescue Deal For Barwell Travel
HOLIDAYMAKERS who feared their plans had disappeared with the failure of tour operator Barwell Travel have been told it is 'business as usual' following a last minute rescue deal. LeisureFare bought Barwell Travel for an undisclosed sum in a deal finalised in the early hours of yesterday. The new owner says all bookings from today will be honoured. The existing staff at Surreybased Barwell, which ceased trading at the end of last week, are also to be retained, pending an assessment of its future development. Barwell Travel specialises in package holidays and flights to La Manga and more than 300 people were booked to travel in the next few weeks, with substantially more over the remainder of the year. Rescue deal for Barwell Ealing-based LeisureFare was founded in 2001 by Jeremy Scott, who has worked in the travel industry for 15 years. LeisureFare is the holding company for BAway, a preferred partner for British Airways and a specialist in cruise holidays. A sister company, TradeFare, works only with travel agents to provide long-haul tailor-made holidays and flights. The company turned over £13.5 million last year and it has aggressive expansion plans, of which the Barwell acquisition is now part. Said Mr Scott, 'It's very much business as usual for Barwell Travel from today. "We are looking to further develop the business and see great potential cross-selling opportunities between its La Manga clients and our own cruise holiday customers."
