This is a busy month for many reasons – the heat is on! Just two months until Christmas – less than one month until the Thanksgiving Holiday! Since my annual Christmas shopping begins on November 23rd I can already feel my shopping frenzy coming on – I’m not complaining – I love it!

However, there are other things to consider this month.  This is the time when I strongly encourage seniors to go get their flu shots and be prepared! There are also several pretty significant national awareness campaigns this month – diabetes awareness, lung cancer awareness, Alzheimer’s awareness, hospice month and caregivers’ month.

One of the biggest updates that I'd like to inform you of following my plea for help and action last month is that the Department of Welfare made a decision to delay submission of the final form Assisted Living Regulations (ALR)  until the next legislative session in 2009. The Department received a large volume of constructive comments from the public and legislators in response to the ALR proposed rulemaking. In order to thoughtfully consider and to adequately respond to the comments, the Department has determined additional time is needed to prepare the final-form ALR regulations.
