Technical Specialist, Commercial General Liability (Public Sector/Municipallity) Claims
In this role you will investigate, evaluate, reserve, negotiate and settle assigned General Liability claims in accordance with Best Practices for our Public Sector customers. In addition, you will provide quality claim handling and superior customer service on assigned claims, while engaging in indemnity & expense management.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Provide timely coverage analysis and communication with insured based on application of policy information to facts or allegations of each case.
Provide quality customer service and ensure file quality; comply with Best Practices.
Investigate each claim through prompt contact with appropriate parties such as policyholders, accounts, claimants, law enforcement agencies, witnesses, agents, medical providers and technical experts to determine the extent of liability, damages, and contribution potential.
Take necessary statements.
Identify resources for specific activities required to properly investigate claims such as outside claim representatives, nurse consultants, and fire or fraud investigators and to other experts. Request through Unit Manager and coordinate the results of their efforts and findings.
Verify the nature and extent of injury or property damage by obtaining and reviewing appropriate records and damages documentation.
Maintain an effective diary management system to ensure that all claims are handled timely.
At required time intervals, evaluate liability & damages exposure, and establish proper indemnity & expense reserves. Utilize evaluation documentation tools in accordance with department guidelines.
Disposition all claims within delegated authority, promptly and properly. Negotiate disposition of claims with insureds and claimants or their legal representatives. Recognize and implement alternate means of resolution.
May manage litigated claims. Develop litigation plan with staff or panel counsel, track and control legal expenses. Assure cost-effective resolution.
Attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials, trials and all other legal proceedings, as needed.
Maintain claim files, have an effective diary system, and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures.
Update appropriate parties as needed, providing new facts as they become available, and their impact upon the liability analysis and settlement options.
Recognize cases based on severity protocols to be referred to next level claim handler or Major Case Unit and refer on a timely basis.
Appropriately deal with information that is considered personal and confidential.
Fulfill specific service commitments made to certain accounts, as outlined in Special Account Communication (SAC) instructions, and inquires from agents and brokers.
Handle moderate to complex litigation
Manage litigation expenses and payout.
Leverage relationships with plaintiff's counsel
The preferred candidate for this role will possess the following:
General Liability claim experience with current knowledge of jurisdictional laws and regulations. Prior experience handling Public Sector claims is desirable.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong negotiation and customer service skills
Basic computer skills
College degree or equivalent related work experience
State licenses, where applicable

SUMMARY:
Plans at an operational level and manages the effective use of resources to implement a medium sized or multiple smaller assigned projects
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Transforms business specifications into cost-effective information systems applications through resource plans and prioritizes work within established budget objectives
Provides the project manager/supervisor with timely and accurate information regarding the performance of the assigned projects(s)
Builds and leverages effective alliances across the technical and business community ensuring the best utilization of resources
OTHER:
Technical Knowledge
Has master level knowledge of multiple programming disciplines and a thorough understanding of the business that the assigned projects are supporting. Uses this understanding of the business and systems environment to develop appropriate and timely solutions to daily issues. Has conceptual knowledge of varying technologies and the ability to make decisions based on that knowledge. Technology skills must include .net and Java and experience working with relational databases -SQL, Oracle and DB2. Filenet experience preferred. Previous experience working with Cognos, Autosys and Datastage also helpful.
