The tourist board of Rhodes has announced that the Greek island will continue to move away from its "party image" next year with the opening of a number of new luxury hotels.New establishments set to open in 2009 include the Atrium Prestige Thalasso spa resort in Kalathos, the Elysium resort in Kallithea and the luxury complex of La Marquise close to Kallithea Springs.The five-star Atrium Prestige will be the second hotel to be opened in Rhodes by the Atrium group, offering views over the Aegean Sea from its location on Kalathos Beach.Scheduled to begin welcoming visitors in the spring, the hotel will comprise 254 guestrooms and boast six restaurants serving a range of different foods.The Thalasso spa centre will provide a range of health and treatment services and offer leisure facilities including outdoor and indoor swimming pools, watersports and tennis courts.Due to open in April 2009, the Elysium resort and spa will comprise 332 guestrooms, all but nine of which will offer ocean views from the establishment's beachfront location.La Marquise is set to open in May next year and will boast leisure facilities including a lagoon-style outdoor swimming pool, courts for playing tennis and squash and a fitness suite.Cheap Flights and Travel News - © 2008 - Just The Flight - Madrid to host CowParade exhibition
Visitors to the city of Madrid in Spain will be able to visit a public art exhibition next year that could well be unlike anything they have seen before.CowParade, a public art exhibition comprised of vibrantly designed fibreglass cows, will come to the Spanish capital from January 16th to March 21st next year.The event is regularly held in destinations all over the world and sees local artists designing cow models in various ways and displaying them at locations around their city.Originally conceived in Switzerland in 1998, the first official CowParade event was held in Chicago in 1999.Since then, public exhibitions have been held in cities as far and wide as Tokyo, Sydney, Johannesburg and Sao Paulo.Visitors to Madrid are likely to be able to see colourful cows displayed in city districts such as Salamanca, Retiro and Central.More information on the CowParade initiative or the Madrid exhibition can be found on their official websites.Cheap Flights and Travel News - © 2008 - Just The Flight - Dubai voted world's best travel destination
Dubai was voted the world's leading holiday destination at the World Travel Awards final in the Turks and Caicos Islands on December 2nd.As well as receiving the award for the best travel location in the world, Dubai was named the best cruise port in the industry and saw the Burj Al Arab voted the leading hotel.Another big winner at the World Travel Awards was Singapore, with Changi Airport named the world's leading air travel hub, Singapore Airlines voted the best air carrier and the Pan Pacific Singapore receiving the award for the leading business hotel.Other airlines to pick up accolades included Lufthansa (best economy class), Etihad Airways (best first class), Qatar Airways (best business class) and Air Berlin (best budget carrier).In the regional award categories, London was named the leading destination in Europe and the Alpenroyal hotel in Italy was voted the continent's best ski holiday destination.Cape Town picked up the top destination honour in the Africa section of the awards, along with Sydney in Australasia, New York in North America and Rio de Janeiro in South America.Cheap Flights and Travel News - © 2008 - Just The Flight - Barbados prepares to host jazz festival
The tourist board of Barbados has urged music fans to pay a visit to the island in January for its annual jazz festival.Taking place for the 16th time in 2009, the Barbados Jazz Festival will run from January 12th to 18th and will bring a "vibrant energy" to the Caribbean island, the tourist board claims.One of the biggest performers set to appear at the festival is multi-million record-selling singer James Blunt, who will perform at the Sir Garfield Sobers complex on January 14th.Other acts on the bill include the BBC Jazz Project, Harvey Mason and Diana Jarrett, who will be performing in picturesque settings such as the Sunbury Plantation House and Farley Hill national park.In the past, the Barbados Jazz Festival has played host to some of the most popular artists in modern jazz, including Ray Charles, Erykah Badu, Luther Vandross and Roberta Flack.More information on the event can be found on its official website.Cheap Flights and Travel News - © 2008 - Just The Flight - Flights resume in Bangkok
The first flights in more than a week landed at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok today after a blockade of the hub by anti-government protesters came to an end.Demonstrators ended their siege of the airport after a court disbanded the governing party of Thailand, allowing a flight from the resort island of Phuket to land in Bangkok.Hundreds of thousands of travellers were stranded in Thailand as a result of the protest and it is expected to be some time before services return to normal and the build-up of passengers can be cleared.
