Scores from Monday night, Mediapolis 69 Notre Dame 45 in girls action and Notre Dame beat the Bulldogs 66-37 in boys play.
Iowa City high boys beat Burlington 56-43.
Here is a summary of the stats for the MPHS boys basketball team at the holiday break. Jordon cotton leads four Panthers averaging double figures in scoring with 78 points, 15.6 per game. Blake Heitmeier 13.8, Henry Krieger-Coble 13.4 and Scott Hahn 12. Austin Marshall is 5 of 17 in three point shooting for 29% from behind the arc. Krieger-Coble leads the two point field goal shooting with a 56% average. The best free thrower is Jordon Cotton at 77%. Krieger-Coble is the top rebounder with 57, Scott Hahn leads in the assist department with 18, Jordon Cotton has 18 steals. Those are some of the stats for the Mt. Pleasant Panthers who at the holiday break have a won-loss record of 4-1 overall and (2-0).
We would give you the girls basketball stats to except the coach hasn't submitted them to Quickstats like he is suppose to do. Hint, Hint, Hint! We can tell you the girls are 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the league. The Panther girls and boys will start the second half of the season at home January 3rd against Mid Prairie.
Chicago Bears stayed alive in the NFL playoff picture by coming from behind to beat the Packers in overtime at a frozen Soldiers Filed 20-17, Da' Bears trailed 14-3 at halftime, Robbie Gould kicked a 38 yard field goal in overtime to secure the win.

The Mt. Pleasant girls and boys basketball teams wrapped up the first half of their season sooner than scheduled thanks to winter weather that hit the area last week. The Friday night games with Ft. Madison were postponed till Februarty 14th.
The MPHS wrestlers did get to participate in the Pella tourney Saturday. The Panthers finished second in the team race and had one champion. Jay Hackett won the 215 pound championship, he is the #8 ranked wrestler at that weight in class 3A. There were a total of 14 ranked wrestlers in the Pella tourney.
IWC men had their game from Saturday moved to 12/31/08 at 1 p.m. in Ruble Arena.
Iowa State has named a new head football coach. Paul Rhoads, a highly successful and charismatic defensive coordinator at both Pitt and Auburn and a former Cyclone assistant coach, is returning home to become head football coach at Iowa State University.

The MPHS girls basketball team goes on the road tonight to play at Ft Madison. The Bloodhounds have been over achieving so far this season and the Panthers have some what been under ahcieving from what they were expected to do. Mt. Pleasant is coming off a loss on their home floor to Keokuk last Friday night, tonight wraps up the first half of the season and a road win will make for a Merry Christmas, a loss would take the Panthers out of the conference race early. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the game live from the Hounddome beginning at 7:30 p.m.
MPHS boys host Ft. Madison, the Bloodhounds have been playing improved over past years and must be taken seriously. Mt. Pleasant is off to a strong start in the conference and can wrap up the first half of the season leading the league if they protect their home court. KILJ will have reports during our girls broadcast.
Mt. Pleasant little kids wrestling tourney is Sunday. 5-8 year olds weigh in at noon, 9-14 year olds weigh in at 2 p.m. $15 registration fee at the door, trophies for first and medal thru 4th.
Iowa State head wrestling coach Cael Sanderson confirmed the signing of four nationally ranked state championship wrestlers to national letters of intent to compete at ISU starting with the 2009-2010 season.David Taylor, a three-time Ohio wrestling champion and the first prep to ever win four Iron Man wrestling championships, has signed a national letter of intent to wrestle at Iowa State. Trent Weatherman helped lead Ballard of Huxley to Class 2-A Iowa prep team titles in both the individual and dual tournament championships. Weatherman won the 2008 Iowa prep 152-pound title to finish the season with a 48-0 record. Boaz Beard starts his senior season at Goddard High School in Wichita, Kan. as a three-time state champion with an 82-2 record. Luke Macchiaroli is a two-time state champion from Corona del Sol in Tempe, Ariz. The Tempe Corona del Sol senior was 52-0 record at 215 pounds last season, winning his second state championship.

Weather permitting the Mt. Pleasant Panther wrestling team is scheduled to host Southeast Conference foe Ft. Madison and Warsaw, Ill.
M.P. is coming off a big win at Keokuk last week and will wrap up the first half of the season at the Pella tournament this Saturday.
Other area duals-W.B. Notre Dame at Waco, Keokuk at Washington, L-M and Wapello at Columbus, New London/WMU and Highland at Mediapolis.
The #10 SCC Black Hawks 14-1 will host Carl Sandburg 10-3 in mens basketball tonight at Loren Walker Arena. SCC is coming off their only loss of the season so far when they fell to Kirkwood over the weekend.
Tiger Woods is preparing to host the Chevron World Challenge golf event in Thousand Oaks, California. Tiger won't play, he continues to rehab his restructured left knee.

Area sporting events were weathered out last night. Activities Directors now have the challenge of finding make up dates. Keep your fingers crossed for Thursday and Friday events as we have a winter storm watch in affect for Thursday nght and Friday morning.
Burlington native and Iowa Hawkeye defensive lineman Mitch King has received more post season honors. He was named yesterday to A.P. second team all american honors, and third team on the Phil Steele all american team. Looks like Mitch will get the opportunity to play on Sunday afternoons next year in the NFL.
Johnson County magistrates court fined Iowa basketball guard Anthony Tucker $100 plus court costs on his public intoxication conviction. He is still suspended from Iowa team, but this reporter expects to see him for the Big Ten portion of the schedule.

Latest ranking of boys basketball teams in Iowa shows very few teams in southeast Iowa in the top ten. Class 4A Ames and Linn Mar are tied for #1. Class 3A has football champion S.C. Heelan top ranked, Mt. Pleasant got some votes. 2A Hull Western Christian is #1, Central Lee got some votes but not enough to break the top ten. Rock Valley tops the 1A poll with IMS ranked 5th, Holy Trinity Catholic did get some votes.
Basketball this week on KILJ, Friday night we will carry live the MPHS girls at Ft. Madison airtime is 7:30 p.m., we will have score updates on the Panther boys as they host the Bloodhounds. Saturday Iowa plays at Drake airtime is 1 p.m., KILJ-AM 1130 will carry the Jacksonville St. at Iowa State game beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday KILJ-FM has the UNI Panthers hosting S. Dakota St. beginning at noon.
Burlington Bees have announced that Jim Gabella will return as the manager for the minor league team. Gabella was in Burlington from 2004-2007 which was the longest term as a manager in the organizations 47 years. Brian Rupp managed the Bees last season and led them to a Midwest League championship, he will move to Wilmington. Gabella will return to southeast Iowa from Idaho Falls.

MPHS boys downed Keokuk Friday night 75-63, Blake Heitmeier and Jordon Cotton each had 21 points. Saturday night the Panthers hosted Central Lee and handed the Hawks their first loss of the year 65-58. Blake Heitmeier with 16 and Jordon Cotton with 15 points led five Panthers in double figures. Central was led by Bret Azinger with 26. Mt. Pleasant is 4-1 (2-0) and closes at the first half of the season hosting Ft. Madison Friday.
Keokuk spoiled the weekend for the MPHS girls basketball team by beating them on their home court Friday night 48-42. Panthers led at halftime 24-14 and got out scored 34-18 in the second half. Janel barnes scored 14 and Melanie Phipps added 10. M.P. is now 3-3 and (1-1) and travel to Ft. Madison Friday.
IWC played two games in Nebraska over the weekend and won them both, beating College of St. Mary Friday 70-45 and York 73-56 Saturday. Wesleyan is 7-5 and is done now till December 28th when they play in the Sioux City Holiday Classic, their first round opponent is #1 ranked Morningside College.
UNI played Richmond Saturday in the FCS playoff semi finals, the Spiders hit a last second touchdown pass to escape with a 21-20 win. Richmond now plays Montana in the championship game in Chattanooga, Tenn. This Saturday.

Mt. Pleasant wrestlers scored a big road dual meet wrestling win at Keokuk last night surrounded by some unusual circmstances. Keokuk led the Panthers by 7 points going into the last match at 171 pounds. Kyle nichting pinned Matt Kelly of Keokuk, that left M.P. one point behind, then Kelly was called for unsportsmanlike conduct. The team penalty point then tied the score and Mt.
