  • Raby
I am looking for information about Alford(Alfred) H. Raby (born July 1871, died about 1904). Alford Raby may be buried in a cemetery on Log Town Hill in Van Buren, Arkansas. This is the information that I have about Alford Raby's death:

Story 1: Alford was rumored to have been dying of a bone felon (a purulent infection or abscess involving the bulbous distal end of a finger). His wife, Eva (Wagner), with four young children, was driving Alford by wagon from Pontotoc County, Indian Territory to either Van Buren or Fort Smith. Alford may have died enroute, or he may have died after they reached Van Buren. This story concludes that Alford may have been buried in a cemetery on Log Town Hill. This would have been about 1904.

Story 2: Alford is reported to have died while attempting to cross the frozen Arkansas River. He was enroute to a ho-down where he was to play his fiddle. Alford was never found, but his fiddle was.

  • 1860 Census
I've not been able to find a census online anywhere for Crawford County in 1860. Does anyone know of one or have access to it that could do a look-up for me? I'm looking for Lord (or Loyd) Alexander Cassady and his wife Rutha. They are on the 1870 census in Van Buren and Rutha's family is on the 1850 census (Ruth Bredrick) in Cedar Creek Township, so I'm thinking one of these two areas is most likely where they'll be found in 1860.
  • ALVEY
My ALVEY lines left St Mary's Co, MD following the Revolutionary War but I have been seeking the many descendants of Joseph and Elizabeth Alvey who came to St Mary's Co in 1657 from England. Serveral Alvey's remained near MD in VA and the District of Columbia. Would like to share Alvey information with anyone who has Alvey in their family history. I have a large base of Alvey information and many collateral lines, many in MD, VA, KY, AR,IN, MO and almost all states west. My family moved to KY in the late 1780's and lived in KY until 1950 when we headed for California where I continue the Alvey line.

Many of the Alvey families settled in the Arkansas area and the children of John Basil Alvey and Mary Ann Montgomery settled in the Crawford Co, AR area.

  • James Martin Smith, Sarah Josephine Davis
According to a posting by Evelyn Flood on freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rkinfolks , in the Kinfolk Stories section, James Martin Smith married Sarah Josephine Davis on 20 March 1870 in Newton County and later married a Margaret Lucivy McCollough on 16 January 1873. Sarah Davis is reportedly the daughter of Nicholas and Matilda Davis.

First, what is the source or evidence that Sarah Josephine Davis is daughter of Nicholas and Matilda and secondly, does anyone know what happened in her marriage to James Martin Smith (did she die or were they divorced or what)?
