PURPOSE
Underwrite new and renewal business in a market segment including building productive relationships with assigned field offices.
Assist field office in achieving their budgeted financial results (premium, loss ratio, retention, commissions, pricing, and new business) through execution of market segment strategies.
Support sales goals and plans of field offices and help build producer relationships.
Facilitate the communication of product information and strategies to field offices.
RESPONSIBILITIES UNDERWRITING
Underwrite and assess risk for Bond products and accounts in a market segment. Make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority and make appropriate recommendations to referral Underwriter.
Understand and effectively communicate segment strategies to the field.
Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation/ information in account management systems and adherence to documentation standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES SALES MANAGEMENT
Act as a partner with the Field to review sales plans and determine appropriate levels of Home Office visibility to support producer relationships. May work strategically and tactically with producers to ensure appropriate level of understanding of company goals and objectives.
May partner with the Field Office on sensitive account specific communication and participate in the communication if necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES * OPERATIONS
Maintain a collaborative relationship with Field Office and Home Office (i.e. Claim, Legal) colleagues.
Demonstrate superior responsiveness to the Field (consistency, quick response, knowledge of products).
Participate on projects having an impact on the business.
COMPETENCIES REQUIREMENTS:
BA/BS degree is preferred and/or equivalent experience.
Insurance experience is required.
Underwriting experience is preferred.
Directors and Officers Liability or Professional Liability Underwriting is most preferred.
Private and Non-Profit Liability experience is a plus. Products include D&O Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Miscellaneous Professional Liability and Fiduciary Liability.
OTHER:

Think strategically to understand a situation (accounts, competitive environment, product changes) and develops a strategy to achieve the desired outcome.
Solid Analytical Skills * Demonstrates the ability to analyze an account and identify all relevant risks/exposures. Understands the type of information to research based on the account or industry and when additional information is required. Makes a sound decision or recommendation based on findings and knows the outstanding issues that require guidance from a more experienced underwriter.
Solid Financial Skills * Demonstrates the ability to analyze an account and accurately assess financial condition and risk factors. Relating the financial situation to the size and exposure of the companys obligation or the industry.

SUMMARY:
Reports to the Managing Director of a business group. Responsible for the profitability, growth and retention of assigned book of business within an assigned territory that is consistent with overall business line objectives. In this middle level position, the incumbent is responsible for all of the functions of an Account Executive except for mentoring Account Administrators; however, he/she may require assistance from a senior level Account Executive in order to manage more difficult accounts. Generally, the incumbent is responsible for independently managing all account activities for the moderately complex to routine accounts.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Support long and short term business strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives for assigned location(s) through responsible marketing and sound underwriting.
Underwrite and price accounts in support of strategic business planning activities designed to increase the presence of the business group in the market; retain the appropriate mix of business; and achieve overall growth and profit objectives.
Respond to underwriting and marketing strategies and standards by developing a marketing plan that reflects local market competitive conditions and, at the same time, meets growth and profit goals.
Ensure that production and underwriting objecitves with respect to profitability are achieved.
Marketing and underwriting responsibilities include but are not limited to: Meeting with agency personnel to maintain and develop positive and productive relationships. In this capacity, assures that our contractual commitments are met and negotiates programs of insurance. Representing the company and our underwriting strategy in the location(s) to agent, employees and the community. Working with other business units as appropriate to support market penetration objectives and seeks out cross-sell opportunities as appropriate.
Maintain the highest level of customer service.
Assist in the delivery of excellent account administration services.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal resources (e.g., LP&E, Claim, Operations, etc.) to ensure delivery of all related services to clients.
Perform all functions to support profit, growth and expense management goals.
OTHER:
The incumbent has authority that is determined by his/her level of experience, the complexity of accounts and the agents assigned. The incumbent generally spends 20% to 50% in outside contact with agents and insureds.
