health and dental insurance for child

There are currently five Child Care Health Consultants and five Child Care Health Advocates serving Kern County.

Child Care Health Consultants are Registered Nurses with expertise in child health and safety. Child Care Health Advocates are trained to assist child care providers and families with linking to a variety of community resources (such as health insurance and nutrition programs).

The Child Care Health Consultant and the Child Care Health Advocate will be able to provide Training on various topics and assist you with:

• Developing policies and procedures in accordance with licensing regulations
• Increasing immunization rates and increasing access to comprehensive and preventive health care services
• Promoting a safe, healthy and developmentally appropriate environment for children in your care
• Improving nutrition services, including information on breast-feeding and food programs

The Child Care Health Consultant will provide on-site & telephone consultation. They may evaluate a child you have a specific concern about. Evaluations may include an assessment for health or dental concerns, vision or hearing concerns, developmental delays, speech delays or behavioral issues. If any special needs are identified, the Child Care Health Consultant will assist the family with linking the child to appropriate services.

On-going evaluations will be conducted to adequately assess the success of this program. Parents, as well as child care providers, will be asked to participate in the evaluation.
