• Fliers in for Pain as Airlines Pack It In

• Gasoline Prices
  Watching gas prices rise 15-cents overnight will frighten the hardiest of souls. Fight back with a little information. The University of Michigan Documents Center has just launched its Gasoline Prices web page. It is filled with statistics on pump and crude oil prices, exchange rates, and oil reserves. Did you know there are 42 gallons to a barrel of oil? It is also addresses solutions to high prices from supply and demand to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and regulating commodity exchanges. In case you are wondering, there IS no existing windfall profits tax.
• Felony Waivers by Type of Offense (Defense Dept)
  Felony waivers given for army, navy, airforce and marine recruitment in FY 2006 and 2007 by type of felony (e.g. burglary)
• Upjohn Institute Employment Research Data Center
  Conducts research for Dept. of Labor on labor force issues. Summarizes results of various surveys: continuous longitudinal manpower survey, persons who exhaust unemployment insurance benefits, lifelong learning, job corps. Data sets available from Upjohn upon request.
• Federal Employees Locations and Salaries 2006 (Gannett)
  Searchable directory of federal government employees by name and agency OR list of employees by state/county and agency. Provides 2006 salary. Coverage limited to civil service employees rather than elected officials or Presidential appointments.
• U.S. Population Projections: 2005-2050
  Pew Research Center report shows that by 2050, non-Hispanic whites will be a minority (47%) and blacks will remain the same while Hispanics and Asians will grow as a percentage of U.S. population. The elderly will nearly double in size, and 19% of the nation will be immigrants. Full text of report released in pdf format on February 11, 2008.

• Health Insurance in Michigan
  Cluster of bills, hearings, and legislative analyses to create a high risk pool for health insurance purposes rather than requiring Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to insure everyone.
• Commission on the National Guard and Reserves
  Commission authorized by Congress to assess homeland readiness for outside attacks and disaster recovery. Final Report, dated January 31, 2008, concludes that the National Guard and Reserves need to be integrated into the military and serve as an operational rather than strategic organization. Also addresses fundamental reforms to reserve roles, personnel management systems, equipping and training policies, policies affecting families and employers.
