  • Google Floats A Data Center Patent: Offshore, Ocean-Cooled, Wave-Powered, And Modular

@GreenPlease They still have to pay taxes - they just don't pay land tax for the data center. And they also get to be very close to a relatively cheap near constant power source which is actually a better selling point than lower land taxes from the perspective of operating a data center. If there was a region that had ample constant renewable power and told data centers owners that they 1) could have inexpensive long-term (decades) access to the power and 2) not have to pay land taxes for decades then the data centers would very much consider moving or expanding into that region. The other limiting factors are 3) employee access and @bbk & John Undersea cables are ( in related industries ) considered normal -- so these barges will just utilize undersea cable. Oh and yes undersea cable is able to transmit data faster than satellite. So no need for new patents here either.

Great idea! When they are made available for purchase, I think camping would be a great use for them, provided they can be folded to fit in the average van or truck ( I know, not very eco-friendly, but that is what the average Americans will take camping) and are fairly lightweight.

  • GM's Bob Lutz: "I don't believe in the CO2 theory"

    Author: Neil

Global warming is a tax scam for poor countrys to take money from rich ones, for Al Gore to get rich because he owns the carbon credit coorporations, and for government to get more power through taxation and regulation. At least someone in this country has a brain and is willing to use it AND is willing to be honest about what they think!

  • Organic Agriculture Wrongly Accused As Prominent Cause Of Heavy Metal Accumulation In Soil

    Author: Ross

Once again, the media has misled people into thinking that the world fits into their storyline: 1) Heavy metals are always, always toxic (see post above me). 2) This guy made up a storyline for his article, and cut the facts that didn't match it.

I would love a bike like this, I think this could be a great trials like bike. Looks like a good bike for Kauai. $1000 shipping though, ouch. Maybe someone can buy a bunch and put them in a container to save on shipping.

Props to Google for innovating. With this tech, Google's bottom line will no longer be subject to taxes and electricity prices. Lake Michigan would be perfect! (er... except for the lack of waves though most of it is class 4/5 wind)

Legal jurisdiction for these floating barges would also be based on port of registry -- ie what home port ( and/or flag of convenience ) do these ships/barges operate under. ************* While I like the concept - and hope it get implemented in some locations - this should not be a patented as it does not meet the required standards for patents, in particular the concept while innovative is not inventive **************************** And looking at the documents it does not seem that they are trying to use the ocean as a heat sink.

  • GM's Bob Lutz: "I don't believe in the CO2 theory"

    Author: Richard

Sounds like most of your treehugger subscribers are hypocrites. On the one hands, you've got a company making a product that could seriously help curtail emissions and help solve a slew of political and economic problems, but because Lutz doesn't believe in a NON proven theory of global warming, they throw temper tantrums and promise not to buy the product. Just because he doesn't believe in global warming doesn't mean he doesn't believe that electric cars aren't the future. He knows that conservation is key for political and economic reasons. We have a major issue of political unrest. The more oil we consume, the more we power the unfriendly people that sell us the oil. It's a ticking time bomb. GM has a product that could potentially help reduce our security issues, and treehugger people vow not to buy the product? What next, if we don't vote for Obama, we are Nazis? How about freedom of speech and respecting people's opinions, even if they aren't the same as yours. Those that made comments of not buying the Volt aren'[t concerned about the environment, they want manipulate others while claiming smugness that the are better then everyone else. Treehuggers have made me lose respect for you. I'm ashamed of even looking at this web site now. Go back into your hole and scream for your mother. Hypocrites.
